African Tuna Conference 2014

10 March 2014

Atuna.com is pleased to organize the first ever African Tuna Conference which will take place on September 25th and 26th in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

The African Tuna Conference 2014 will focus on the changing situation of the tuna industry and bring together leading players in the region’s tuna sector.

With skipjack prices hitting record low levels in recent months, challenges and opportunities that the tuna industry is facing, and is likely to meet in the future, will be discussed across the two day agenda.

The conference will be aimed at tuna professionals who are active in a range of aspects within the industry. Representatives from production, packing, import/export marketing and distribution of fresh, frozen and canned tuna to and within the African tuna market will be in attendance.

Organized by Atuna, presentations will focus on vital issues including: the global tuna supply, and most especially that of the African continent; drivers affecting tuna price movement; effects of catch quotas and fishing bans; higher catch license costs; exports from Africa to the rest of the world; willingness of consumers to pay for sustainability; EU regulations and many other topics.

With African economies growing, 1.1 billion consumers and local industries becoming ever more sophisticated, Africa is bound to become an even more important processor and growing market for tuna products. Although held in Ivory Coast, the conference will be focusing on all African markets, processing locations and fishing grounds, from South to North, from East to West, mainland or island nations.
