Wild Planet Says It Has Safest Canned Tunaff

9 March 2006 United States

Wild Planet Inc. launched this week Wild Planet (TM) "Minimal Mercury" canned tuna, with the lowest mercury levels in the industry. Wild Planet canned albacore is tested to ensure quality and safety by Am Test, Inc., an independent laboratory that offers testing services in the environmental, air quality, industrial, biological, and petrochemical sectors.

“We are very excited to introduce this product to the public” according to Chen-Ley Ong, CEO of Wild Planet Inc. “With heightened health concerns over buying seafood, we are proud to bring to the public the healthiest canned albacore in the market. Not only does our tuna have the lowest mercury content, it also has six times the amount of omega 3 fatty acids compared to national brands. That means it’s safe, it’s nutritious, and it tastes great.”

The EPA’s recommended reference dose of mercury is 0.7 micrograms per kg of body weight per week. According to the company that means a child weighing 50 pounds can safely consume 4 ounces of Wild Planet’s “Minimal Mercury” albacore compared to only 1.6 ounces of albacore from the national brands. Wild Planet says it makes tuna safe, healthy and fun again for kids and adults.

Wild Planet products are sold online at www.safetuna.com. The company also ships directly to natural food and specialty food stores nationwide, as well as to various high-quality restaurants across the country.

Wild Planet, which was founded in 2004, will also be exhibiting at the upcoming Boston Seafood Show.
