He is dubbed "the Playboy Prince" however yesterday Prince Albert of Monaco looked anything but glamorous.
Dressed in casual pants and windcheater and wearing casual slip-on shoes, the son of Prince Rainier and the late Princess Grace slipped into Port Lincoln to check out the local tuna farms.
He did so in style – as a guest of fishing identity Joe Puglisi aboard his luxury cruiser, Lady Suzanne III.
But the question remained, just what was he doing in the fishing town of Port Lincoln? "I've been asking myself the same question," he joked.
On his way to New Zealand for official diplomatic duties, he was invited to investigate the tuna farming market to see whether something similar could be set up in Monaco. "I thought why not make a detour and visit a part of Australia that I have never been to," he said.
His only disappointment about the beautiful town was the weather, loitering in the low 20s and stormy, meaning he could not go out on Mr Puglisi's boat, which is estimated to be worth more than $3 million. "I thought it was supposed to be 30 degrees, sunny and calm," he said. "It's a shame we couldn't take the boat out, perhaps tomorrow."
Today he will inspect the tuna farms and canning facilities before flying back to Adelaide this afternoon. He will celebrate his 45th birthday next month in Madagascar, where he will be carrying out humanitarian work.
