Thailand Tuna Output To USA Still Grows – But Declines To UK ff

According to the Thai Customs data, exports of Thai canned tuna increased by 6% in 2007. This represents an additional 2.705.968 cartons of canned tuna packed 48 x 185g compared to the previous year.
The United States (US), Australia and Libya were the three major destinations for the Thai canned tuna last year, and each of these destinations increased its volume in comparison with 2006.
The US maintained its leading position as importer of Thai canned tuna. US import figures went up by 8%, going up from 77.449 M/T (8.721.734 cases of 48x185 g) in 2006 to 83.902 M/T (9.448.423 cases) in 2007. Australia and Libya increased imports by 3%, compared to their take in 2006.

On the other hand, Egypt, which in 2006 was the second most important destination for the Thai product, saw its imports drop substantially by 24%, descending from 32.712 M/T in 2006 to 24.713 M/T in 2007. Also, Thai supplies to the United Kingdom fell by 17%.
Thailand is the world’s major exporter of canned tuna.
