This year’s Woman Entrepreneur of the Year, Corazon Dayro Ong, is no less than the brains behind the highly successful innovative food product, San Marino Corned Tuna.

In an interview at the sidelines of the Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 awarding ceremonies at the Makati Shangri La Hotel on October 15, Mrs. Ong expressed gratitude for the Filipino consumers for their high level of acceptance for her latest innovation.

Mrs. Ong is the founder and vice chairman of food manufacturing firm CDO- Foodsphere Inc. She was adjudged Woman Entrepreneur of 2009 by Ernst and Young for her exemplary skills in entrepreneurship, leadership and community development – making her a trailblazer in Philippine business.

Her company is now involved in a “Tuna War” with the Century Pacific Group over for allegedly employing unfair trade tactics by thwarting Foodsphere’s production supply and distribution on its corned tuna, in an effort to suppress competition and retain its monopolistic control over the local canned tuna market.

A nutritionist and dietitian by profession, Mrs. Ong showed excellence as a woman entrepreneur by putting up a small meat processing venture 34 years ago and steering it to become one of the pillars of the food manufacturing sector in the country today.

CDO-Foodsphere has earned the trust and confidence of the Filipino consumer through consistent product innovation, strategic distribution and well-synchronized advertising and promotion, to push its cost-competitive products.
