Philadelphia Police Department has begun investigations after a refrigerated truck transporting large cartons of tuna worth USD 10,000 was stolen from near Pattison Avenue in the wee hours of Thursday. According to the security of wholesaler Samuels Seafood Company (SSC), where the incident happened, thieves came in four SUVs and stole the cargo while the driver was asleep in the truck. A security spokesperson told US news sites that the perpetrators were seen “taking maybe two or three boxes at a time, as quick as in a minute and a half.” SSC sells a variety of seafood including fresh and frozen yellowfin and sushi products throughout the US, according to its website.

Earlier this week, six boxes of salmon were stolen from the same area. Cargo thefts in Philadelphia have more than doubled from 2021 to 2022 and continued to grow with 257 last year.
