The Global Tuna Trade Tornado – What’s The Damage and Who’s Still Standing?

The tuna supply chain has been heavily hit by the import tariffs tornado US President Trump caused on April 2, with far-reaching consequences and major immediate damage for two major exporting countries such as Thailand and Vietnam; at the same time, creating new market opportunities for Ecuador and Colombia.
What will be the impact on the global tuna trade in the coming months and how will it shift supply chains of raw materials and finished products, not just toward the USA, but also in the European Union? These will be central topics at the ETC2025 in Barcelona in Session I.
The European Parliament voted last week to postpone the new stricter laws on due diligence and sustainability reporting requirements. This will impact large European tuna companies such as Jealsa, Nauterra, and Bolton. What will be the consequence for transparency in the industry and throughout the supply chain? The panelists of Session II will highlight different perspectives on the changes in demands for transparency, and whether they see ethical sourcing regulations as a benefit or a burden for the tuna sector
Low catches, climate change, and evolving market demands are putting pressure on the tuna fishing and processing industry. Over the last year, several large European tuna processing companies faced bankruptcies and experienced major troubles getting their large debts refinanced. Can more of this be expected? How will raw material prices be affected? Where are the threats and the opportunities, and how to exploit them, will be the focus of Session III.
The European Tuna Conference (ETC2025) is only four weeks away and has an exciting and dynamic business program with experienced panelists, who will take you through the hot topics of the tuna industry. They will provide information that one can hardly find anywhere else. All the reasons to book a ticket for Barcelona and meet your colleagues in retail, fishing, processing, and trade on May 5, one day before the Seafood Expo Global in the same Mediterranean city. Do not miss it and reserve your seat now!
The full program can be found on the European Tuna Conference site with the introduction of the 17 panelists with their backgrounds.
