Indonesia Tightens Tuna Trade With UAE

Indonesian tuna company PT Dempo Andalas Samudera recently sent its first shipment of tuna products to the United Arab Emirates, one of the Asian country’s largest markets for the fish. The West Sumatra-based company processes tuna for loins and steaks. It shipped 9.3 tons of products, valued at IDR 1.87 billion (USD 112,703), which was released by Indonesia’s Trade Minister Budi Santoso, reported Indonesian news sites.
Santoso added that his nation wants to expand tuna exports in the coming months, especially to the EU. Indonesia is also preparing to sign a tuna trade agreement with Tunisia in June. He stressed that the government is focusing on the national UMKM BISA Ekspor program, launched by Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade to empower micro, small, and, medium enterprises to enter and compete in the global market. The initiative has proven to be effective in boosting Indonesian exports, including tuna products.
