Callipo Continues Ties With Italian Port To Boost Yellowfin Operations

29 July 2025

Italian tuna processing company Callipo Group and the Port System Authority of the Southern Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas, in Italy, recently entered into a deal last week. Callipo will develop a 24,130 square meter cold storage facility in the port, along with ancillary services to ensure a stable power supply. Pippo Callipo, President of the tuna company, and Andrea Agostinelli, a top executive of the port, inked the agreement. Agostinelli called it a major productive establishment. He praised the “social and civic values consistently upheld by Pippo Callipo and faithfully followed by his corporate family, which will undoubtedly bring further employment opportunities to the port of Gioia Tauro,” reported Italian news sites.

Meanwhile, Callipo, which mainly produces yellowfin products for the domestic and international markets, can continue operations in the port. The group has been operating in the port since 2018 under a sublease license. The issuance of the concession, which gives Callipo the right to operate and manage certain port facilities or services, was followed by the positive opinion of the Group’s Management Committee. The port has provided the company a 22-year duration with an expiration date set for September 15, 2044, starting from September 16, 2024 (effective date in continuity with the license).
