MSC Recognizes Bermeo Tuna World Capital For Sustainability Efforts

The Bermeo World Tuna Capital (BWTC) was recently recognized by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) for its work under the ‘Promotion of Sustainable Fishing’ category. The award, presented last week in Gijón, “recognizes our commitment to sustainable fishing, as well as the work and initiatives that we have launched and worked on in recent years for the dissemination and promotion of this fishery, through this Bermeo Tuna collaboration project,” BWTC said in its LinkedIn post.
BWTC is a public-private initiative launched in 2018 in Spain’s Bermeo municipality that brings together industry, scientists, and policymakers to promote sustainable tuna fishing, innovation, and global collaboration across the sector. The MSC organized the ‘Seas Forever’ campaign last week, designed to promote the consumption of certified sustainable tuna and other seafood and raise awareness about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems. The award to BWTC was presented as part of the initiative.
