US Retailer Recalls Fresh Yellowfin Steaks

Wegmans Food Markets recalled yellowfin products on July 28 because they contained a too-high level of histamine due to improper cooling. It concerned the products: Yellowfin steaks, 1-pound packages with two different badge numbers, and Food You Feel Good About yellowfin medallions in one-pound packages. They were sold between July 18 and July 25 at four stores in New Jersey and one in Connecticut. The items posed a health risk for consumers, but so far, no one has reported any health complications from the products.
Wegmans warned that the contamination cannot be seen, as the product will look, smell, and taste the same as safe tuna. Heating will not diminish the histamine toxin created by bacteria. It urged customers to return the product to the store and get a full refund. Wegmans Food Markets is headquartered in New York and has 114 stores across nine US states. The supermarket chain is known for its fresh food and prepared meals.

Indeed if the steaks were CO treated , as Wegmans says the contamination cannot be seen, as the product will look, smell, and taste the same as safe tuna. That is precisely the risk of dealing with CO product.
