Albacora Workers Attacked In Guayaquil Demand To Return Home

02 August 2024

Around 30 Spanish employees of Albacora have been holed up in a hotel in Posorja, Ecuador for two days after their bus was shot at earlier this week. They were returning from the shipyard in Guayaquil, where they had been fixing one of the company’s vessels, reported Spanish media. The assault took place around seven in the evening Ecuadorian time. Six people on three motorcycles allegedly ambushed the workers and began shooting at their bus. Up to 17 bullets hit the vehicle, but none of the occupants were injured. The workers arrived in Guayaquil on July 15 and were supposed to stay there until September 26, but now they are demanding immediate repatriation by Albacora. They feared for their lives and claimed that the security hired by Albacora had sold them out to the attackers.
