Century Pacific Goes The Extra Mile In Plastic Neutrality

The Philippines’ leading processor of canned tuna reasserted its commitment to achieving plastic neutrality. Century Pacific recently stated that in 2024, it recovered close to 2,900 M/T of plastic waste from the environment, equivalent to 100 percent of plastic packaging, used for its tuna and other brands, reported The Manila Times. The company said that it has been conducting regular clean-up events across the Philippines, along with its subsidiaries, to achieve this goal.
Century Pacific claimed this to be a milestone as it surpassed the requirement set by the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022, at a 40 percent recovery for a year. This Act emphasizes that producers (manufacturers, importers, brand owners) are responsible for the recovery and diversion of the plastic packaging they place on the market, and recycling is one of the main allowable ways to do this. The company has been teaming up with Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX) since 2019 for recycling plastic. PCX is a global marketplace for plastic credits, designed to help companies and organizations take responsibility for their plastic footprint.
