Grupomar To Boost Tuny Yellowfin Loins Output Ahead Of Lent

Mexican seafood firm Grupomar will ramp up daily production of yellowfin loins under its tuna brand Tuny ahead of the Lent season beginning this week.
According to the company, the increased demand for tuna, which occupies a major role in the diets of millions of Mexicans, especially during the Lent season (from February to Easter in April), prompted the company to step up Tuny’s yellowfin loins production. It has installed an additional processing line designed to expand volumes while maintaining strict cold-chain oversight and regulatory compliance, reported news site Milenio.
The religious period typically strains fish availability as a large group of consumers shift from eating meat toward seafood, creating procurement challenges for processors, stated Grupomar. The vertically integrated company operates its own tuna vessels in the EPO that catch yellowfin. It asserted that the fish supply will be secured without adding pressure on stocks or straying from responsible fishing commitments.
In Mexico, yellowfin loins are widely used as an everyday protein in both home cooking and the foodservice sector. They are typically cooked and flaked for tostados, tacos, salads, and sandwiches, often mixed with chili flakes, mayo, and vegetables.
