Vietnamese province of Binh Dinh organizes the Essence of Land and Sea Festival from July 11 to 15. The event will be an opportunity to advertise the importance of its tuna industry. The fisheries and processing facilities in Binh Dinh play a major role in Vietnam’s tuna export of which half goes to the US and 40 percent is shipped to the EU. The longline fisheries target mainly bigeye and yellowfin, while small purse seiners catch skipjack in the coastal waters. The region’s government put a lot of effort into combating IUU fishing by conducting inspections on required licenses and registrations.

The festival aims to highlight the province as the ‘tuna capital’ of the country. Vietnamese and international chefs will showcase their special tuna dishes and a workshop will be held on the development of tuna fishing and processing. Various music performances are scheduled during the event.
