GTA Director To Talk About Transparency At ETC2025

24 January 2025

The first group of panelists of the European Tuna Conference on May 5 at the ICAB building in Barcelona has been confirmed. Atuna is introducing Daniel Suddaby, Executive Director of the Global Tuna Alliance (GTA), who will participate in Session II: Transparency & Sustainability.

He will briefly explain the new strategy for GTA and discuss with the panel and the audience whether growing consumer demand for ethical sourcing would reshape the tuna industry. Technological developments such as AI, affordable satellite imagery, and remote sensing tools are revolutionizing the transparency in the tuna industry. Also, regulations and data tracking encourage sustainable practices and protect customers from fraud.

Suddaby has a deep passion for the ocean, marine life, and sustainable fishing practices and has 20 years of experience in fisheries and marine conservation. Before joining the GTA, he founded and led the Tuna and Distant Water Fisheries Program at Ocean Outcomes, building effective relationships with longline tuna and supply chain companies to incentivize transformation through tools such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Fishery Improvement Projects.

He was Deputy Leader of WWF’s global fisheries initiative for six years where he led global tuna fisheries engagement and advocacy in all RFMOs. He also has experience as Senior Fisheries Certification Manager at MSC.

The theme of ETC2025 is ‘Navigating the Evolving Tuna Landscape – Balancing Sustainability, Supply Chains, and Market Dynamics.’ Registration to participate in the Conference is open.
