Filipino Company Invests To Boost Tuna Operations In Northern Samar
A Philippines-based seafood exporting company is all set to invest in tuna fishing activities in Northern Samar. Vessels based in this region have lately been catching at least 100 tons of yellowfin daily. Seatrace International, headquartered in Manila, recently announced that it would begin an ice plant and a fish auction center “to ensure high-quality tuna reaches the domestic and international markets,” reported Filipino news sites. But the amount to be invested in the projects was not revealed. Seatrace sells fresh and chilled yellowfin and other seafood products such as oysters, crabs, and lobsters to international markets such as the EU, US, and the UAE.
Christian Schmidradner, COO of the company, recently met fishers from the Northern Samar region. He said the upcoming facilities would help to maintain the freshness of the tuna and provide a reliable market for the fisherfolk’s catch, ensuring they receive fair market prices.
