Spain To Give EUR 17 Million Grant To Fishing And Aquaculture Firms
The Spanish government has called tuna and other fishery producer organizations and associations to submit proposals for the allocation of EUR 17 million in grants to guide their different strategies and sustainability of operations. This would include combating IUU fishing, finding solutions to decarbonization, and improving energy efficiency.
The aid, co-financed by the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, will be given in two installments: EUR 7.05 million in 2024 and EUR 10.1 million next year. The first amount will be granted as an advance to improve the liquidity of the organizations and enhance the execution of their plans without the need for a guarantee. “Aid for production and marketing plans of fishing organizations continues to rise in terms of the amount and scope of the projects undertaken. This trend is motivated by recent changes in regulations and, fundamentally, by the initiative of producer organizations and associations to take advantage of opportunities to access greater funding,” read a statement from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
